BLACKPINK became the first female K-pop group to top the official UK album chart, demonstrating their “world class” presence.

According to the official UK chart on the 23rd (local time), BLACKPINK‘s second full-length album “BORN PINK”, released on the 16th, topped the album chart. This is a feat set in the UK main chart, which is the world’s second biggest chart along with Billboard USA.

The previous record for K-pop artists was also on BLACKPINK‘s first full-length album ‘THE ALBUM’, released in 2020. Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Chart Company, which manages the official charts, congratulated them by saying: “For BLACKPINK to become number one with ‘BORN PINK’ is a fantastic achievement. They’ve entered themselves into the record books.”

BLACKPINK have made good progress not only in releasing an album, but also in the official Top 100 singles. While the title song “Shut Down” ranks 24th, the popularity of the previously released song “Pink Venom” is not unusual. The song first hit number 22 just after its release in August and has maintained high weekly ratings such as 37th, 40th, 47th. This week, the track climbed nine notches to number 38 and stayed in the charts for five weeks in a row.

BLACKPINK also became the first K-pop group to top the Spotify Weekly Top Songs chart. The world’s largest music listening platform, used by more than 400 million people in 184 countries, topped the top chart in the UK, birthplace of pop music. Accordingly, the eyes and ears of music fans around the world are turned to the ranking that Blackpink will achieve on Billboard USA. It will be published next week.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK‘s second full-length album “BORN PINK” topped the iTunes album chart in 60 countries, including the US and UK, and topped the Apple Music album chart in 64 countries. The music video for the pre-released song “Pink Venom” surpassed 300 million views and the music video for the title track “Shut Down” also surpassed 100 million views, joining the ranks of 34 billion YouTube videos.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will kick off their “BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK]” world tour at KSPO DOME, Olympic Park, Seoul, on October 15 and 16. Afterwards, they will meet fans from all over the world in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. They are expected to gather a total of 1.5 million fans, which will be the largest audience ever for a female K-pop group.
